DENTON, Texas - North Texas junior linebacker Zach Orr was named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week today for his efforts in the Mean Green's 30-23 win over Louisiana-Lafayette.
Orr led the North Texas defensive effort with nine tackles and had a key interception to help North Texas to a 30-23 win over the Ragin' Cajuns. After ULL scored on its opening possession of the game North Texas was in need of some momentum and Orr intercepted a Terrance Broadway pass that led to the Mean Green's first points of the game.
Orr currently ranks third in the conference in total tackles and is tied for sixth in interceptions. Orr is the first North Texas player to earn a player of the week honor this year. He is the first North Texas defensive player to earn player of the week honors since Craig Robertson won the award at the beginning of the 2009 season.
The Mean Green is back on the road this weekend at Middle Tennessee with the kickoff set for 2:30 p.m.
