Ruston, La, (10/21/05) - The Mean Green takes a break today from conference play with a road game against Louisiana Tech at 3 pm. The game is not televised but can be heard on the Mean Green radio network.
North Texas leads the Sun Belt and ranks sixth nationally in turnover margin with an average of +1.4 turnovers per game. The Mean Green has recovered nine fumbles and intercepted seven passes while only committing a total of nine turnovers in its first five games. Louisiana Tech has only lost one fumble in its first five games, but has thrown eight interceptions. The Bulldogs rank second in the WAC in turnover margin with an average of +0.8 per game.
Junior linebacker Phillip Graves was named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his effort in the win over Florida International. Graves nearly single-handedly kept North Texas in the game, being responsible for five tackles, including two tackles for a loss, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, one interception and two quarterback sacks. Two of the three turnovers he was responsible for resulted in North Texas points to make the difference in the game. Graves interception at the FIU 33-yard line in the second quarter set up a fi eld goal three plays later. In the third quarter he sacked FIU quarterback Josh Padrick and forced a fumble at the Panther 34-yard line which set up a Mean Green touchdown three plays later.
