Guyton Named To Biletnikoff Watch List
Redshirt Sophomore's Strong Season In Denton Catching National Attention
TALLAHASSEE, Florida - North Texas redshirt sophomore wide receiver Jalen Guyton was added to the Biletnikoff Award watch list, the Tallahassee Quarterback Club announced Wednesday.
The Biletnikoff Award is presented annually to the season's outstanding receiver regardless of position, defining a receiver as any player who catches a pass. The winner will be presented live on Dec. 7, 2017, as part of The Home Depot College Football Awards Show on ESPN.
Guyton has burst onto the scene for the 4-2 Mean Green and leads the team and Conference USA in receiving yards (626, ninth in the nation), receiving yards per game (104.3, 11th nationally) and receiving touchdowns (seven, tied for third nationally), on a team-best 32 catches. The Allen, Texas, native is averaging 19.6 yards per catch for the conference's most prolific offense.
Guyton earned Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week honors earlier this season when he posted a career-high 14 catches for 211 yards, also a career high, and a touchdown in the win at Southern Miss on Sept. 30. The 14 catches tied for the fourth-most in a single game in school history, while the 211-yard performance was ninth-best in program history.
Over the past two games, both North Texas wins, Guyton has hauled in 22 passes for 393 yards and three touchdowns.
The award winner is selected by a group of prominent college football journalists, commentators and former receivers. Ten semifinalists will be announced on Nov. 13.
