DENTON –
Following a tough loss on the road at UAB, the Mean Green is back at home for the only time in the month of October to face Southern Miss on Saturday at Apogee Stadium. The two teams have identical records at 2-4 and 0-2 in C-USA play. Southern Miss is coming off a bye week and making its first trip to Denton since 1981. The series between the two schools is tied for 4-4.

North Texas is averaging 32.2 points per game halfway through the season, which is on pace for the season highest scoring year in school history. The Mean Green averaged 31.8 points a game in 2013 and has never averaged over 30 points a game in back-to-back seasons.

Antoinne Jimmerson notched his second 100-yard rushing game of his career with 104 yards against UAB. It was the first 100-yard rushing performance by a Mean Green running back this season.

Freshman kicker Trevor Moore is perfect on the year in field goals.. He is 6-for-6 this season and one of only seven kickers left in the nation to be perfect on the year. Moore is the only freshman remaining in the country without a missed FG in 2014.

The Mean Green is looking to avoid its first 0-3 start to the league season since 2009. Under Dan McCarney, North Texas has never lost three straight conference games.

Linebacker Derek Akunne notched a career-high 17 tackles at UAB, and in the last two games has recorded 30 tackles. He is tied for second in C-USA with 51 tackles on the season. The 30 tackles in consecutive games are the most since Craig Robertson had 30 in the final two games of his career to close out the 2010 season.

With a win over Southern Miss, NT would have a 3-1 mark at home. It would be the third time in four seasons under Coach McCarney at the Mean Green has been 3-1 or better after four home games.

The NT turnover margin this season in its four losses has been -9. Opponents have capitalized on those mistakes, scoring 70 points off of turnovers. In the two wins this season, North Texas has turned the ball over once, in the four losses that number balloons to 14.
