DENTON, Texas – Brelan Chancellor headlines seven North Texas football players that were named to the Midseason All-C-USA team released by Phil Steele this afternoon. Chancellor was named to the first-team as a kick returner and second-team as a wide receiver and punt returner.
Joining Chancellor on the first-team is guard Cyril Lemon and linebacker Zach Orr. Lemon has started 30 straight games, including two games at tackle. Orr leads North Texas with 56 tackles this season and has 298 for his career, which is seventh in the nation among active players.
Chancellor is averaging 31.6 yards a kick return that includes a 99-yard touchdown return against No. 9 Georgia. He is averaging 19.3 yards a punt return with returns of 62, 55 and 48 yards this season. Chancellor is the only player in the nation in the top-10 in both kick and punt returns this season.
Thompson has completed 68 percent of his passes this season and is averaging 243 yards a game, which is the third-most in C-USA. Smith leads North Texas with 41 catches and 445 yards and three TD’s. Y’Barbo has been an anchor at guard this year and recovered a fumble in the end zone for a touchdown.
Defensive end Aaron Bellazin is a second-team pick as he has 18 tackles, five tackles for loss and two sacks this season. Quarterback Derek Thompson, wide receiver Darnell Smith and guard Mason Y’Barbo were named to the third-team.
