Fitzgerald Highlights Mean Green Mid-Season Awards

DENTON, Texas (10/15/08) Eight members of the Mean Green football team were named to the Phil Steele’s 2008 Mid-Season All-Sun Belt Conference Team, highlighted by a First Team Offense selection for wide receiver Casey Fitzgerald.

The All-American senior receiver leads the nation in receptions per game (9.17) and is seventh in receiving yards per contest (104.7).

Joining Fitzgerald on the offensive side of the ball are offensive linemen Tyler Bailey and Esteban Santiago. Each is part of an offense that has averaged 370 yards a game and for their efforts were named to the Second Team Offense.

Junior linebacker Tobe Nwigwe was named to the Second Team Defense and is currently third in the Sun Belt with 60 tackles. Senior punter Truman Spencer was also named to the Second Team and leads the conference with a 42.7 punt average and has 10 punts of 50 yards or more.

Rounding out the selections are three more members of the Mean Green defense. Senior defensive tackle Issac Thomas (20 tackles) and senior defensive end Ryan Davenport (18 tackles) were selected to the Third Team Defense as did sophomore linebacker Craig Robertson (54 tackles).

The Mean Green will be back in action this Saturday as they travel to Louisiana-Monroe. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
