DENTON, Texas (10/11/08) - North Texas continues its two-game homestand this weekend with a battle tonight against Louisiana-Lafayette at Fouts Field. Louisiana-Lafayette is 2-3 on the year but riding high after a 44-35 win over Louisiana-Monroe on the road to start conference play. The Mean Green is still searching for its first win of the season while the Ragin’ Cajuns are playing their fifth road game of the season.
Louisiana-Lafayette enters the game with the nation’s top rushing attack as the Ragin’ Cajuns are putting up 331 yards on the ground this year.
North Texas owns an 8-4 lead in the series with the Ragin’ Cajuns that dates back to 1969. Last year Louisiana-Lafayette won 38-29 over the Mean Green in Lafayette. It’s the Cajuns first visit to Denton since the 2005 season. Last season in Lafayette North Texas piled up 383 yards passing and Casey Fitzgerald had 131 yards receiving.
In Denton, North Texas has a 4-2 mark against Louisiana-Lafayette. North Texas is averaging 31.6 points a game against Louisiana-Lafayette in Fouts Field. Meanwhile the Cajuns are averaging just 21.3 points in Denton in six games.
