DENTON, Texas (10/2/08) - It's an important stretch for the North Texas football team as the Mean Green begins Sun Belt Conference play this Saturday night against Florida International. The Mean Green is home for three of its next four games beginning with the Golden Panthers.
The game will be broadcast on ESPN Plus as part of the Sun Belt Conference TV package and carried locally in the Dallas-Fort Worth area by TXA 21. ESPN 360 is also carrying the game this weekend and the broadcast is free at ESPN360.com.
The game can also be heard on the Mean Green Radio Network. Kick-off is at 6 p.m.
The Mean Green enters the game against FIU winless on the year having dropped their first four games. Florida International is coming off its first win of the season, a 35-16 victory on the road against Toledo.
These two teams will forever be linked in history even though its only the fourth game between the two schools. North Texas holds a 2-1 series edge over Florida International but the Golden Panthers won the last meeting 38-19 to end the 2007 season. That game was memorable because it was the final game played in the Orange Bowl.
The only meeting in Denton was in 2006 and was one for the record books. The two teams played an NCAA record seven overtimes, with North Texas finally prevailing 25-22. North Texas won the first ever matchup between the two teams in 2005 13-10 in Miami.
