Guyton Earns Offensive Player of the The Week Honors
Jalen Guyton Caught A Career-High 14 Passes For 211 Yards In Win At Southern Miss
IRVING - North Texas redshirt sophomore wide receiver Jalen Guyton earned Offensive Player of the Week honors following his standout performance in the Mean Green's 43-28 win at Southern Miss this past week, Conference USA announced Monday. NC-USA Players of the Week are voted on by a panel of the league's media members.
Guyton had a career-day for the Mean Green last week in Hattiesburg. The Allen native caught 14 passes for 211 yards, both season-highs for any Mean Green receiver in 2017, and career-highs for Guyton. He also caught a touchdown, his team-high fifth of the season through just five games. Guyton became the first Mean Green receiver to catch more than 10 passes in a single game, and the first to surpass the 200-yard mark in a game since Carlos Harris did so (15 catches for 216) against Southern Miss during the 2014 season. Guyton caught five passes of 15 or more yards, including his game-long 53-yarder in the third quarter. Guyton had the third-most receiving yards in the Football Bowl Subdivision last week.
The Mean Green improved to 2-0 in conference play for the first time since 2004. Guyton's 211 yards were just a shade over 30 yards shy of Southern Miss' total defense average of 241.3 yards per game.
