Football Travels To Kansas State On Saturday

DENTON (9/20/05) - After falling to Tulsa in its home opener, North Texas (1-1, 1-0) heads to Kansas State (2-0, 0-0) for its second road trip of the season. The game will not be televised in the Dallas/Fort Worth region but can be heard on the Mean Green Radio Network.

The Mean Green enters Saturday’s game against Kansas State tied for the nation’s longest conference winning streak at 26 games. North Texas has won four straight Sun Belt Conference titles and has played in four consecutive bowl games. Kansas State, the 2003 Big XII champion, failed to make a bowl for the first time in 12 seasons in 2004. The Wildcats have started the season with wins over Florida International and Marshall.

With wins in the last two games against North Texas, the Wildcats own a 2-1 all-time margin over the Mean Green. North Texas took the first meeting 22-10 in 1985. However, in the 1989 rematch, new head coach Bill Snyder would snap Kansas State’s 30-game winless streak to earn his first career victory, 20-17. The Mean Green last faced Kansas State in 2000, falling 55-10 to the 4th-ranked Wildcats.
