DENTON, Texas - North Texas is back at Apogee Stadium Saturday night for the Sun Belt Conference opener against the Troy Trojans at 6 p.m. The Mean Green is going after the best start to a season since 1997 and a 1-0 start to league play for only the second time in the last seven years.  The game can be seen on ESPN3.com and heard on the Mean Green Radio Network.

North Texas has outscored its last two opponents at Apogee Stadium by 79 points. The Mean Green beat MTSU by 52 points to end the 2011 season and Texas Southern by 27 points to begin the 2012 home season.

In addition North Texas has rushed for 816 yards in the last two games at Apogee Stadium. The Mean Green tied the school record with 464 yards against Middle Tennessee to end the 2011 season and followed that up with 352 yards against Texas Southern. The 816 rushing yards are the most in back-to-back home games in school history.

Quarterback Derek Thompson had a career-best and school record 89.2 completion percentage (min. 20 completions) against Kansas State, by completing 25-of-28 passes. Thompson stands at 58.7 percent for his career in completion percentage, which ranks fourth all-time at North Texas.

A win against Troy would even the Mean Green's record at 2-2 and be the best start after four games since 1997. Since returning to FBS in 1995, the Mean Green has been either 1-3 or 0-4 after four games in 14 straight seasons and 16 of 17 years at the FBS level since 1995.

North Texas had 353 total yards of offense against Kansas State. It was the most yards for the Mean Green against a Big 12 school on the road since racking up 507 yards of offense against Colorado in 2004.

The Mean Green forced two turnovers against Kansas State and has now forced at least one turnover in 19 of the last 20 games.

Brelan Chancellor is just 48 all-purpose yards away from entering the top-10 all-time at North Texas. Chancellor has 2,950 for his career and 50 more all-purpose yards would make him the fifth player since the 2001 season to top the 3,000 all-purpose yard mark in a career. He leads North Texas with 377 all-purpose yards on the season and could become the first player in 24 years to lead the Mean Green in all-purpose yards in three straight seasons.

Not since Marcus Camper lead the Mean Green in all-purpose yards from 1985-88 has a player led North Texas in all-purpose yards in three straight years.

The Mean Green opens their 12th and final season of Sun Belt Conference play against Troy. North Texas in Sun Belt opener since joining the league is 5-6.

After three weeks, North Texas ranks 14th in the nation in red zone defense. Opponents are only 5-for-8 in the red zone, and the Mean Green has two turnovers. North Texas is the top red zone defense in the Sun Belt Conference.
