After scoring the game-winning touchdown in the Mean Green’s 34-27 victory over Ball State, quarterback Derek Thompson was named the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week.
Thompson accounted for 346 yards of total offense and two touchdowns, leading North Texas from an 18-point deficit to a 34-27 win over Ball State.
Thompson tied a career high with 47 pass attempts, completing 31 of those for 274 yards with no interceptions. He also ran for 72 yards, including a 26-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter to put North Texas in the lead for good – which was also the longest rush of his career.
The Mean Green offense through three games has piled up 1,395 yards of total offense, which is the most through the first three games of the season since 1951. In two of the three games the Mean Green has topped 500-yards of total offense, which is the first time since 1983 that North Texas has had 500-yards of total offense in two of the first three games.
North Texas has its best record after three games since 1994 at 2-1 and battles the No. 9 Georgia Bulldogs this weekend.
