Football Hosts Tulsa At Fouts Field This Saturday Night

DENTON (9/14/05) - After extending its conference winning streak to 26 games with the win at Middle Tennessee, North Texas (1-0, 1-0) hosts its first home game against Tulsa (0-2, 0-0) on Saturday, Sept. 17 at 6 pm. The game will not be televised, but can be heard on the Mean Green Radio Network.

North Texas and Tulsa have met 19 times, including 17 times when the two teams were conference rivals in the Missouri Valley Conference. Tulsa holds a 13-6 advantage in the series, but the teams are tied a 4-4 at Fouts Field.

North Texas receiver Marvin Walker set NCAA Division I-AA records for receptions in a game and a season, but it wasn’t enough as Tulsa beat the Mean Green 38-20 at Fouts Field on November 20, 1982. Walker caught 22 passes for 164 yards in the game, giving the senior 91 catches on the season. Mean Green quarterback Rusty Hill set school records by attempting 61 passes, completing 42 for 377 yards. But, the Golden Hurricane took the lead in the third quarter on a Michael Gunter 4-yard run, and never looked back. A 60-yard interception return for a touchdown iced the game for Tulsa late in the fourth quarter.

North Texas is 54-18-2 all-time in home-opening games, including a 40-11-2 record at Fouts Field. The Mean lost its home-opener last year to Florida Atlantic 20-13. Darrell Dickey is 3-4 in home-openers.
