DENTON (9/11/04) North Texas had its eight-game winning streak at Fouts Field snapped with a 20-13 loss to Florida Atlantic on Saturday evening.
The Mean Green last loss at home was a 24-17 setback to South Florida in 2002.
Down 13-3 at the start of the fourth quarter, North Texas scored 10 straight points to tie the game at 13 with left on the clock. Quarterback Scott Hall engineered the comeback, beginning with a 54-yard pass to senior Kevin oHohOHoward. The wide receiver caught four passes for a career-high 94 yards, including a personal best with the 54-yard reception. On the next play, Hall found sophomore Johnny Quinn for a 34-yard reception. On fourth and goal, sophomore Kevin Moore rushed into the end zone to bring NT within three, 13-10, with left in the game.
North Texas regained possession of the ball with on the clock after senior Aaron Chavers forced a fumble on FAU’s 47-yard line. After failing to convert on third and eight at the 14-yard line, senior Nick Bazaldua came in and converted a 31-yard field goal to tie the game at 13. The Mean Green was 3-of-14 on third-down conversions. Bazaldua was 2-for-3 in field goal attempts on the day, including a 49-yard field goal in the second quarter that tied his career best.
Senior Anthony Jackson returned the ensuing kickoff 50 yards to the midfield to set up the Owls for their game-winning drive. After a 50-yard drive, Doug Parker ran in the winning touchdown from the one-yard line with 29 seconds remaining.
Parker ran for 126 yards and scored two touchdowns for the Owls, while quarterback Jared Allen completed 18-of-25 passes for 245 yards.
North Texas returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 18 when it faces Colorado in Boulder at 6 pm. The Mean Green returns home on Saturday, Oct. 2 against Middle Tennessee at .
