Thursday-Night Game Necessitates Campus Parking Closures

Sept. 9, 2014

DENTON - For the fourth year in a row, Apogee Stadium will host a weekday football game when the Mean Green faces Louisiana Tech this Thursday, Sept. 11, at 7 p.m., which requires parking-lot closures for students, faculty and staff on Wednesday and Thursday.

The university will remain open on Thursday, but the parking lots at Victory Hall, the Mean Green Village, and Fouts Field will be used for game-day parking and tailgating.

If you are conducting business in any of the buildings that utilize Fouts Field Lot 20, access will not be granted to staff or visitors after 1 p.m.  Please make other arrangements.

Here is the schedule of parking lot closures:

Victory Hall Paver Lot - must be vacated by 5 p.m. Wednesday, when the lot will be made available for Mean Green fans and tailgating. Unauthorized vehicles will be towed. All vehicles in this lot after 5 p.m. on Wednesday must have a Blue or Red game-day parking pass.

Victory Hall Lots 80 and 81 - must be vacated by 1 p.m. on Thursday. Towing will start after 1 p.m., at which time the lot will be open for vehicles with Blue or Red parking passes.

Mean Green Village Lots 71-77 - must be vacated by 1 p.m. on Thursday. Towing will start after 1 p.m, at which time the lot will be open for fans and game-day staff.

Fouts Field Lot 20 - must be vacated by 1 p.m. on Thursday. Towing will start after 1 p.m., when the lot will open to game-day parking paying cash.

Those with campus-parking permits can park in the Highland Street Parking Garage without being charged.

  • Take a ticket as usual to raise the gate for entry.
  • The exit gates will be raised between noon Thursday and noon Friday for free exit.
  • Exits prior to noon Thursday or after noon Friday will require payment.

UNT Shuttle buses will operate as normal. Once the traffic control plan is implemented around 5 p.m. on Wednesday, the Eagle Point route will stop operating and the North Texan route will be modified to accommodate traffic and street closures. ERide will operate as normal at 9 p.m., but calls will be restricted to the main campus and Discovery Park. The Campus Cruiser route will be modified to drop off and pick up at Fouts, but students will need to use the Pedestrian Bridge to catch the Campus Cruiser.

Faculty, staff and students are advised that there will be heavy traffic on North Texas Boulevard and I-35E Thursday evening. If you're not coming to the game, consider alternate routes to avoid game traffic congestion.
