Jeffery Wilson Averaged 14.7 Yards Per Carry In Win Over Lamar
IRVING – North Texas senior running back Jeffery Wilson earned Offensive Player of the Week honors following his standout performance in the Mean Green’s win over Lamar this past week, Conference USA announced Monday. North Texas opened the season with a commanding 59-14 win over the Cardinals and head into this week’s matchup with Metroplex rival SMU looking for the program’s 500th win. C-USA Players of the Week are voted on by a panel of the league’s media members.
Wilson (Elkhart, Texas) led the way for the Mean Green last Saturday, averaging an eye-popping 14.7 yards per carry, which is the fourth-best single-game performance in school history for a player with at least 10 carries. He posted 176 yards on 12 carries and equaled a career-high in rushing touchdowns with three in the win in less than two quarters of action. He scored from two, 10 and 62 yards out, pushing himself into seventh all-time in career rushing touchdowns (19) in school history. He also moved into ninth place in school history in rushing yards (2,166).
Wilson paced a ground attack that rushed for 436 yards as a team, just 28 yards shy of the school record in a single game (464). North Texas also set a school record for total offense in the win, posting 668 yards against Lamar.
