North Texas football drops season debut to TCU, 19-5

(9/1/01) Junior transfer running back Kevin Galbreath turned in a successful debut in the Mean Green backfield, but his 107 yards rushing wasn’t enough to get North Texas a win in its season opener Saturday night at Fouts Field.

Galbreath carried the load for the Mean Green by carrying the ball 19 times, but TCU kicker and member of the Horned Frogs’ soccer team -- Nick Browne actually stole the show at by kicking TCU to a 19-5 victory.

Browne tied a TCU school record with four field goals in the game, three coming in the second half . He connected on kicks of 41, 43, 27 and 20 yards in the game before a crowd of 22,837 to lift the Frogs to their first win of the year.

With the exception of Galbreath’s performance, the Mean Green offense struggled to get much going. Galbreath accounted for all of North Texas’ rushing yards and all but 22 of the Mean Green’s total yards.

North Texas’ five points came on a 26-yard field goal by senior kicker Jason Ball in the second quarter and a safety when a TCU snap sailed out of the back of the end zone.
