Regents Give Thumbs Up To Seek State Approval Of Stadium

DENTON, Texas (8/20/09) - The University of North Texas Board of Regents gave their authorization to seek the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board approval for the construction of the new football stadium on Thursday.

The approval signals the final endorsement needed at the University level. The State Coordinating Board meets in Oct., and is the final hurdle that the University needs to clear in order to begin construction in January.

"Today's decision by the Board of Regents was a validation that we have done things the right way," said North Texas Director of Athletics Rick Villarreal. "The students and the Board of Regents have shown their support for the stadium, and now it's in the hands of the alumni and fans to make it a reality."
