Mean Green Defense Comes Alive During Two-A-Days

DENTON (8/17/05) - The Mean Green defense got the upper hand today in a physical set of football two-a-days at the new Athletic Center.

Gearing up for their showdown with Louisiana State on Sept. 3, the North Texas defensive line proved its mettle this morning, forcing several turnovers. Nose tackles Chris Miller and T.J. Raymond controlled the line of scrimmage through much of the short yardage situational drills.

While the line controlled the offensive running game, the defensive backs looked impressive against the passing attack. Cornerback T.J. Covington made a couple of interceptions and Deavin Cox made a several key pass break ups.

Defensive back Tyrone Carter was awarded a scholarship after joining the team as a walk-on two years ago. Carter made his mark on special teams and as a backup corner back for the Mean Green.

The start time has been moved for the Mean Green's first official scrimmage. The scrimmage will now begin at 8 a.m. this Saturday at the C.H. Collins Athletic Complex. The game is open to the public and free of charge.
