Four Touchdown Passes Highlight First Fall Scrimmage

DENTON, Texas (8/10/07) The Mean Green football team got its first chance during fall practice to run simulated plays during an intrasquad scrimmage at Fouts Field. North Texas alternated between offensive plays, followed by reps from the special teams. In all, the offense ran approximately 120 during the scrimmage.

Both Daniel Meager and Giovanni Vizza saw reps with the first-team offense.

The first touchdown of the day came on Meager’s second drive with the offense. On fourth and goal from the five, Meager found Evan Fentriss on an out route for a touchdown.

Working on red-zone efficiency, Vizza recorded two consecutive touchdowns; one though the air and the other on a five-yard run.

Redshirt freshman Nathan Tune found Casey Fitzgerald on a check-down and let Fitzgerald do the rest. He broke three tackles and sprinted 22 yards into the endzone.

Sam Roberson, a 6-4 freshman wide out from Somerville, again made some heads turn as he went up and pulled down a 28-yard touchdown pass from Meager.

The last touchdown of the day came when Joshua Maldonado scampered in from eight yards out to record the Mean Green's sixth touchdown of the day.

The Mean Green defense did cause one turnover when Dominique Green picked off a Vizza pass inside the 20-yard line.
