Signed: 2009 from East Mississippi CC
Key Stat: 624. Last season he was 12th in the nation in receptions at East Mississippi as he hauled in 46 catches for 624 yards.
Why he will start: Outlaw was a mid-term transfer who was able to participate in spring ball and off-season workouts. He really shined during the spring and showed his ability right off the bat. The competition is going to be fierce at the WR spot in the fall with just one starter back. What stood out about Outlaw and caught the attention of the coaches were his hands. Virtually every pass thrown his way was caught.
Why he won’t start: His main competition is coming from Breece Johnson who already has two full years under his belt in Coach Dodge’s system. A strong fall by Johnson and any slippage by Outlaw could see him fall out of the starting lineup.
Overall: Outlaw’s got great speed and his ability to get deep was the other intangible that set him apart from the rest. The only knock on Outlaw is he’s never done it at the Division I level but his spring should have erased any doubts about that. Outlaw’s playmaking ability in the open field is the other attractive quality he possess, when combined with his speed, will make him a favorite target of Riley Dodge.
