Football Preview -- Offensive Lineman Coleman Feeley
In our continuous coverage of the North Texas two-deep roster we take our first look at a key cog in the Mean Green offensive line - right guard Coleman Feeley.
Signed: 2008 Anderson High School
2008 Key Stat: 31 … Feeley was named to the Rivals.com Sun Belt All-Freshman Squad after impressing the league in the second half of the year. He clinched a starting role for the final seven games of the season at right guard, and will enter the fall as the incumbent. Good luck moving this behemoth. Feeley has increased his strength and bulk, and now checks in at a nimble 318 pounds – 31 pounds heavier than his listed playing weight in high school.
Why he will start: Feeley has the size and strength to be an every-down player, and now adds experience to the mix. In ’08, It only took him six games to win the starting job from then-junior Tyler Bailey, and now he is apart of an o-line that has combined to start over 100 games.
Why he won’t start: With a veteran like Bailey hot on his heels, Feeley must continue to progress in order to keep the starting gig. Still, the job is his to lose heading into camp.
Overall: The offensive line is one of the most improved units to this year’s Mean Green squad, and Feeley is one of the keys. As the protector of quarterback Riley Dodge’s front side, Feeley will be counted on to keep the passing lane clear. His size and strength will give him an advantage with defensive linemen, and he should be a standard on the Mean Green o-line for years to come.
