Signed: 2006 from Stafford High School
2008 Key Stat: 7.5…Robertson’s aggressive style of play led to a team-leading 7.5 tackles for losses for a total of -20 yards, which also led the team.
Why he will start: One of the leaders on defense, Robertson is one of if not the hardest-hitting member of the Mean Green. He was second on the team last season with 94 tackles and had a team-high two forced fumbles. Not only does he fill gaps well against the run, he also has the mobility to keep up with opposing tight ends. Last year he had two interceptions and three pass breakups, as well as five interceptions in 2007.
Why he won’t start: Injury.
Did you know: Not only did Robertson star on the football field during his high school days; he also tore it up on the diamond and on the hardwood. In his final seasons other than football he batted a whopping .487 with 21 stolen bases and averaged 22 ppg. on the Spartan basketball squad.
Overall: Along with fellow LB Tobe Nwigwe, both form a durable and hard-hitting one-two punch in the middle of the field. It will be important for Robertson to remain healthy since this is an area that lacks depth. With a season under his belt with D-Coordinator Gary DeLoach, look for Robertson to be even more of a playmaker in year two.
