DENTON, Texas – North Texas offensive lineman Cyril Lemon and Mason Y’Barbo have been named to the Rotary Lombardi Award Watch list today. It is the second watch list of the preseason to which Lemon has been named, as he was named to the Outland Trophy Award list last week. For Y’Barbo it is the first time he has been named to any preseason watch list.
Lemon is the only player in the nation to start every game since his freshman year and be named all-conference in three straight seasons. Lemon enters the 2014 season with a chance at becoming the first NT offensive lineman at the FBS level to earn All-America honors since Bill Carrico in 1959.
Y’Barbo has also started 37 straight games and was a second-team all-C-USA pick. Lemon and Y’Barbo have anchored the Mean Green offensive line that allowed only 11 sacks in 2013 and the fewest sacks in the nation over the past two years with 17.
Eligibility for the Rotary Lombardi Award is limited to down linemen, end-to-end, either on offense or defense, who set up no farther than 10 yards to the left or right of the ball, or linebackers who set up no farther than five yards deep from the line of scrimmage.
The candidates earned a place on the preliminary watch list by earning All-America honors, being named to their respective all-conference teams or receiving 2014 pre-season honors.
The 45th Rotary Lombardi Award will be announced on Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2014, at the Bayou Music Center in Houston. For more information, visit www.rotarylombardiaward.org.
