Kirby Named To The Rimington Award Watch List
Junior Center Goes From Walk On To One Of The Nation's Best
DENTON -- The Rimington Trophy Committee has released its 2015 Fall Watch list and North Texas center Kaydon Kirby is one of 63 players listed as the top center in FBS football.
Kirby has started 25 straight games at center for the Mean Green and is the first NT center to be on the Rimington Watch List since Andy Brewster in 2004.
Kirby is one of seven C-USA centers named to the list. He has been the starting center for North Texas after redshirting his freshman season in 2012. He was named to the Conference USA All-Freshman team after starting all 13 games at center in 2013.
Kirby was part of an offensive line that season that allowed only 11 sacks and he helped pave the way for a record breaking offensive season with 5,336 total offense in 2013. The 2013 season, which saw North Texas capture the 2014 Heart of Dallas Bowl, had Brandin Byrd rush for over 1,000 yards.
Last season, Kirby started all 12 games as North Texas rushed for 21 touchdowns, which tied for the eight most in school history.
The Rimington Trophy is presented annually to the Most Outstanding Center in NCAA FBS Football.
College Football. As the season progresses, the Rimington committee will continue to watch all players and will announce its finalists on December 7, 2015.
