DENTON (6/23/06) University of North Texas running back Jamario Thomas has been named to the 2006 Maxwell Award Watch List for the second straight year. Each year the Maxwell Football Club presents the Maxwell Award to the Collegiate Player of the Year.
Thomas is one of two players from the state of Texas, as well as the only player from the Sun Belt Conference to be named to the Maxwell Watch List.
In 2005 Thomas sustained a hamstring injury which hampered his ability to be the starting running back for the Mean Green. Thomas rushed for 361 yards on 89 carries in eight games.
In 2004 Thomas was named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year, Offensive Player of the Year and Freshmen of the Year. He led the nation in rushing (180.1 avg) and ranked fifth in scoring (11.3 avg) and set a North Texas and Sun Belt Conference record with 1,801 yards.
