DENTON, Texas – The University of North Texas football team posted one of its best years in the classroom in recent history during the 2012-13 academic year.
“I’m really proud of the work that our team has continued to do in the classroom and this is another positive step that we have taken to improve the overall progress of this program,” said head coach Dan McCarney. “We haven’t had any APR issues but we aren’t going to take this for granted, we know that the hard work on the football has to happen in the classroom as well.”
The North Texas football team had 45 players with a grade point average of over 3.0 for the 2012-13 year. Additionally, Derek Akunne, Ryan Boutwell, Jarrod Lynn and Brock Squier each had a perfect 4.0 GPA for the year. Those four players were named to the President’s List for having a perfect 4.0 GPA.
In the last two semesters the Mean Green has had 87 players earn a GPA 3.0 or better and every Mean Green player that has exhausted their eligibility in that time has graduated from North Texas.
