DENTON, Texas – North Texas football head coach Dan McCarney has announced the signing of safety Matthew Dash to a National Letter of Intent. Dash, a junior college transfer from LA Pierce College, will have two years of eligibility remaining at North Texas.
“Matthew is a big-hitter and will come in and provide us more competition at the safety position,” said McCarney. “He’s a physical player and I want him to come in and compete for playing time in the secondary and on special teams.”
Dash was named to the Southern California Football Association All-Pacific Conference first-team in 2013. He was the second leading tackler for LA Piece with 45, to go along with two sacks, two tackles for loss and one interception.
In high school, Dash played quarterback and safety at Willingboro High School in New Jersey. Dash rushed for eight touchdowns and nearly 500 yards while passing for nearly 1,000 yards and 16 touchdowns his senior season in leading Willingboro to a 10-1 record.
As a junior, Dash had 12 interceptions on defense. He played in the Adam Taliaferro Blue-White All-Star Classic after his senior year in high school.
