As part of the lead up to the Super Bowl XLV at Cowboys Stadium in 2011, the North Texas Super Bowl XLV Host Committee has begun its Century in the Making sweepstakes which will allow fans to vote on the top 100 greatest moments in the region's history.
As part of the promotion, fans are allowed to vote great moments in four different categories; high school, college, professional and special moments. The college voting began Monday, April 19 and runs through June 6. Among the candidates for great college moments in the North Texas region are former Mean Green quarterback Steve Ramsey's five-touchdown performance against Cincinnati in 1968 as well as well as the 2001 New Orleans Bowl appearance and Jamario Thomas' national champion rushing title in 2004.
The University of North Texas is also represented in the special moments category with Abner Haynes and Leon King breaking the color barrier and making the school the first in the region to integrate its football team. Voting for the special moments category will take place from June 7 through July 25.
Fans can vote online at the Host Committee web site at www.centuryinthemaking.com. Paper ballots are also available at the North Texas Athletics office.
