North Texas Completes Spring Ball With Green-White Game

DENTON, Texas (4/12/08) More than 3,100 people showed up to see the University of North Texas football team close out spring ball with the annual Green-White scrimmage Saturday afternoon at Fouts Field.

The Mean Green offense found the endzone five times during the hour-and-a-half scrimmage; all coming through the air. On the day, North Texas completed 68 percent of its passes for 391 yards. Giovanni Vizza, the 2007 Sun Belt Freshman of the Year, completed 15-of-23 passes for 154 yards and a touchdown. Vizza’s former Alamo Heights teammate, Sam Dibrell, led the Mean Green receiving corps with 63 yards on seven catches and a score.

The North Texas defense proved to be stingy in the early goings, allowing just a field goal through the first 13 minutes of the scrimmage. The defensive highlight of the day was when defensive back Germaine Dawson got past the offensive line and knocked the ball loose from Giovanni Vizza in the backfield. Marquis Sykes scooped up the fumble at the two-yard line and coasted in for the touchdown.

Craig Robertson, a sophomore from Stafford, Texas, led the first-team offense with six tackles and one pass break-up. Walk-on freshman Cole Frazier led all defensive players with seven tackles.
