DENTON, Texas (3/30/09) The University of North Texas is mourning the loss of former football player and student Germaine Dawson who was tragically killed last Thursday. Dawson was a four-year football letterman for the Mean Green from 2005-08.
“Germaine was a great competitor, teammate, and a member of our football family and right now we just want to offer our thoughts and prayers to his family and loved ones,” said head football coach Todd Dodge. “The thing that I will always remember about Germaine was that he had a plan and wanted to coach and work with young people. I always respected him for the time he would spend over the summer working with kids and the relationships that he had with so many young athletes. He will be dearly missed."
Dawson played linebacker and safety in 31 games at North Texas and started 11 of those games. In 2006 he stepped in for the injured Phillip Graves at linebacker and finished third on the team in tackles with 54. He had 70 tackles for his career with the Mean Green.
The memorial service for Dawson will be held this Friday in Rockdale, Tex.
