DENTON, Texas (3/3/09) The North Texas athletic department finished second in the campus-wide CANstruction during the university’s Citizens Week. More than 75 student-athletes, including 62 football players, built a football stadium out of cans that were collected during the week.
The athletic department collected close to 1000 cans, and the student-athletes constructed a small rendition of the future Mean Green football stadium. The stadium finished second in the judging.
The University of North Texas donated 9,346 pounds of food to The Denton Community Food Center from the food drive.
CANstruction is where campus organizations build elaborate structures out of canned goods, collected through a campus-wide canned food drive. Each organization was responsible for collecting the canned goods for their structure. The CANstruction competition ran from February 25-26 and was judged on the 27th.
