DENTON, Texas - North Texas head football coach Dan McCarney along with current and former members of the Mean Green football team were special guests at the recent Champions for Children Gala hosted by the Children's Advocacy Center of Denton County.
McCarney was joined by current North Texas players Brandin Byrd, Brelen Chancellor, Derek Thompson and Marcus Trice and former players Lance Dunbar and Craig Robertson. The group signed autographs and assisted with silent and live auction items.
"It was a humbling experience and really puts into perspective the blessings that we have," Chancellor said. "Hopefully we were able to bring a little encouragement and positivity to the lives of young people who have experienced a difficult past."
This was the fourth-annual Gala, which is one of the primary fundraisers for the non-profit organization whose mission is to provide healing for abused children through interagency collaboration and community education.
Byrd, Chancellor, Thompson and Trice will all begin their final year of eligibility with North Texas this fall. Robertson, who finished his Mean Green career in 2010, currently plays for the Cleveland Browns of the NFL and will earn his Master's degree from North Texas this summer. Dunbar finished at North Texas in 2011 and now plays for the Dallas Cowboys.
