Longview, TX (01-12-05) - North Texas running back Jamario Thomas returned home to a warm welcome yesterday as the city of Longview held a celebration in his honor and declared January 11 as Jamario Thomas day.
The All-American freshman visited and signed autographs at the local elementary and junior high schools, and even returned to his alma mater, Spring Hill High School, where his number 20 football jersey was retired at half time of the girl's basketball game.
As a Spring Hill Panther, Thomas set the all-time rushing record with 5,007 yards and scored 90 touchdowns in his illustrious career.
In just his first year of college, Thomas has rewritten the record books at North Texas. He led the nation in rushing with 180.1 yards per game and tied the record for most consecutive games with over 200 yards rushing.
Thomas was named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year as well as Offensive Player of the Year and was named to a host of all-America teams.
