Mean Green Sets New Highs With Volunteer Work During Fall Semester

DENTON (1/4/06) - Mean Green student-athletes took community service to new heights during the fall 2005 school semester. The athletes completed over 1,500 hours in community service throughout the Dallas/Ft.Worth Metroplex.

For Hurricane Katrina and Rita, North Texas athletes raised $25,000 for organizations such as Salvation Army and United Way. For the holiday season they donated over 1,400 pounds of canned goods and personal hygiene items to the Denton Community Food Center. A small group of 15 student-athletes also mentor weekly to students in the fourth and fifth grades at Newton Rayzor Elementary through the Denton Independent School District.
