Ryan Walters is in his first season with North Texas as the cornerbacks coach.
Walters was a graduate assistant in 2012 at Oklahoma and helped coached the cornerbacks as the Sooners played in the 2013 Cotton Bowl.
He spent two seasons at the University of Arizona, one as a graduate assistant in 2010 before he was promoted to defensive backs coach in 2011.
He was with the Wildcats in 2010 as they played in the Alamo Bowl. Walters spent one season with Colorado as a student assistant coach in 2009, working primarily with the secondary.
As a player Walters had a standout career at Colorado. He started in 33 games in four seasons and played in 46 games for the Buffaloes.
Walters earned honorable mention All-Big 12 honors from the Associated Press and first-team All-Colorado honors from the state's National Football Foundation chapter his senior year.
A team captain for the Buffaloes in 2008, Walters also was picked by his teammates as the team's MVP. He had 87 tackles, two sacks, seven pass deflections, three fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles and two interceptions his senior year. His 20 career passes defended rate No. 15 in Colorado history and his 223 career tackles were No. 45 all-time.
During his career, the Buffaloes played in the Houston Bowl, Champ Sports Bowl and Independence Bowl.
Walters earned his degree in history from Colorado in December 2008 with dual majors in History and Ethnic Studies.
