Noah Joseph enters his second season with North Texas and will coach the Mean Green safeties. Joseph also serves as recruiting coordinator.
Joseph worked with safeties Marcus Trice and Lairamie Lee in 2012, who had never made a start prior to the season, and they ended up as the fourth and fifth leading tacklers on the Mean Green defense.
The North Texas defense allowed the fewest points per game in a single season since 2006 and held four opponents to 14 points or less for the first time since 2003. Trice lead North Texas in forced fumbles and fumbles recovered to go along with two interceptions last season.
Joseph was the Co-Defensive Coordinator and coached the secondary in 2011 at Montana State. In 2011, the Bobcats secondary was first in the Big Sky Conference in pass efficiency defense and pass defense and ranked 18th and 22nd in the nation in those categories.Montana State finished 27th in total defense and had 44 total sacks, which led the Big Sky Conference and ranked seventh in the nation.
Joseph was also the recruiting coordinator for Montana State. He helped transition all-league safety Kevin Retoriano to cornerback during fall camp in 2009, then enjoyed Retoriano's second all-conference season.
He helped Arnold Briggs make a similar transition, and after missing a season with a knee injury Briggs, repaid the Bobcats with a Second Team All-Big Sky season.
In all five seasons at Montana State, Joseph coached a first- or second-team all-league cornerback or safety.
Joseph coached at Eastern Illinois from 2003-06, producing one of the top pass efficiency defenses in the nation in 2005. He also worked as a graduate assistant at Drake (2000), Eastern Kentucky (2001) and Iowa State (2002).
A former player at Drake, he earned Academic All-Pioneer Football League honors and was captain of the Drake football team as a senior in 1998. Joseph, who was on the 2000 Drake coaching staff, holds the Bulldog school record for longest interception return of 100 yards at Wayne (Neb.) State in 1997.
He received his degree from Drake in 1999 and a master's degree from Iowa State in 2003.
