DENTON -- The North Texas men's basketball team completes its non-conference schedule with a home game against Sam Houston State Tuesday, Dec. 28 at 7 p.m. inside the Super Pit.

The contest was originally scheduled for an 8 p.m. tip-off but the women's game was cancelled allowing for the game to be moved up to 7 p.m.

The Mean Green are coming off a tough road loss 105-82 at Creighton back on Dec. 21. North Texas was able to score 82 points but just couldn't make enough stops against Big East member Creighton. Four players finished in double figures with junior J-Mychal Reese leading the way with 20 points. Classmate Deckie Johnson had 16 points and dished out four assists. Sophomore Jeremy Combs added 11 points and eight rebounds. Freshman Ja'Michael Brown finished with 12 points in his fifth start of the season.

Reese leads the team in scoring at 14.4 points per game and has 47 assists in 12 starts. Reese has scored in double figures 10 times and is 39-for-50 from the free throw line. Johnson and Combs are tied for second on the team at 13.3 points per game. Johnson leads the team with 25 made three pointers and Combs leads the team in rebounding at 8.9 boards per game.

As a team, North Texas is shooting 48.2 percent from the field which puts them 35th in the nation. The Mean Green also are 14th in free throw attempts (330) and 85th in scoring offense (78.7 points per game).

North Texas will have a quick turnaround to open up Conference USA play on the road at UTSA Friday, Jan. 1 at 6 p.m. in San Antonio.

About the Opponent: Sam Houston State

• This will be the 63rd meeting between the two teams with the first ever meeting coming in 1925. The last meeting came in 2011 with a North Texas win 53-50 inside the Super Pit.

• Inside the previous meeting box score: Dec. 10, 2011 - Former Mean Green player Chris Jones had 14 points and three assists in the 53- 50 win. The in-state rivalry returns after a four year break.

• Sam Houston State is 5-7 on the season and is coming off a loss to fellow C-USA member UTEP (L, 87-68) on Dec. 22. The Bearkats have lost two games in a row at the Sun Bowl Invitational opening the tournament with a loss against UC Irvine (L, 63-53).

• Aurimas Majauskas leads the team in scoring at 14.3 points per game and is second in rebounding at 5.7 boards per game. Dakarai Henderson is second on the team in scoring at 13.5 points per game and leads the team with 23 made three pointers. Torry Butler is averaging 7.3 rebounds per game to lead the team.
