DENTON (12/28/06) Quincy Williams racked up a career-high 20-points in scorching the North Texas basketball team past Belhaven 93-66 at The Super Pit.
With tonight’s win, North Texas (10-3, 1-1 Sun Belt) has reached 10 victories faster than any Mean Green team since 1976-77 team. Only five teams in school history reached 10 wins faster.
“I am very excited about getting to 10 wins this early in the season. I feel like we have played well up to this point,” said head coach Johnny Jones. “I like the way played in the second half. We were able to turn up the intensity and get into passing lanes and create turnovers which led to opportunities at the other end.”
Williams was able to capitalize on those opportunities, besting his previous career high of 18 set earlier this season. The junior also managed to haul in nine rebounds and block a shot. Williams is now tied with Kenneth Lyons for 11th place in school history in career blocked shots.
Behind Williams North Texas dominated the post, owning 38-18 advantage in points in the paint.
Calvin Watson notched his third straight game with at least 20 points, putting up a game-high 23. The senior has now hit at least three 3-pointers in six straight games, and is tied with Jerome Rogers for third all-time in NT history with 159 career three’s.
After over a month on the sideline, Kendrick Davis made his return to the court. Davis, out with a hand injury since Nov. 15, logged 19 minutes in his comeback, with 2 points and a team-high four assists.
The Mean Green returns to Sun Belt Conference action on Saturday night against the Denver Pioneers. Tip off is scheduled for 7 p.m. from the Super Pit.
