DENTON – The North Texas men’s basketball team will finish its non-conference schedule with a west coast matchup against San Diego on Thursday, Dec. 22 at 7 p.m. inside the Super Pit.

Both basketball programs will be in action as the women’s team will face Texas State at 5 p.m. The men’s team is slated to tip-off at 7 p.m.

The Mean Green (6-5) defeated Southeastern Louisiana on Dec. 20 behind a balanced scoring attack. 10 players recorded a point and six players scored eight or more points. Senior guard Keith Frazier, making his North Texas debut, led the team with 12 points (5-for-8) off the bench. Junior Jeremy Combs added 11 points, including two highlight dunks.

Freshman Ryan Woolridge continues to produce with nine points, three steals and a career-high six rebounds in his second game. North Texas continues to improve on its free throw shooting after going 17-for-22 (77.3 percent) at the line against the Lions.

Combs leads the team in scoring at 13.4 points per game in seven games. Junior Deckie Johnson is second in scoring at 11.2 per game. Freshman A.J. Lawson sits third in scoring at 9.8 per game. Sophomore center Rickey Brice Jr. has shown his touch at the free throw line hitting his last nine attempts and is 30-for-38 (78.9 percent) this season.

North Texas only allowed 65 points against Southeastern La. and is giving up just 68.0 points per game, which is the third-best mark in school history.

The Mean Green will open Conference USA play with five of the first seven games on the road starting at Charlotte Dec. 31 at 11 a.m.

About the Opponent: San Diego

• This will be fourth meeting between the two teams. North Texas holds a 2-1 record with all three games being played in the 80s.

• In the last meeting, San Diego defeated North Texas 73-60 at the Super Pit on Nov. 11, 1989. The Mean Green are 2-0 on the road in the series and 0-1 at the Super Pit.

• San Diego is 6-5 on the season and is on a four-game winning streak. The Toreros started the streak with a road win at Northern Arizona (80-65) and continued with three home wins against Cal State Fullerton (82-75), UC Santa Barbara (77-68) and Bethesda (105-89).

• Forward Brett Bailey leads the team in scoring at 18.5 points per game. Bailey has done it all with 17 three-pointers, 79 rebounds (team-best), team-high seven blocks and nine steals in 11 games.

• Texas native Olin Carter III is second on the team in scoring at 17.4 points per game and is coming off a 34-point performance (10-for-11) against Bethesda.

• The Toreros are averaging 74.5 points per game and 9.7 three-pointers made. Six players have hit 10 or more from beyond the arc. Guard Olin Carter III has hit 38-of-95 from the three-point line.
