DENTON - The North Texas men's basketball team has revenge on the mind when they travel to face San Diego on Saturday, Dec. 16 at 9:30 p.m. (CT). The Mean Green suffered a last second loss to the Toreros 69-68 last season on Dec. 22, 2016 at the Super Pit.

Both teams come in with winning streaks, the Mean Green won two-straight at home to improve to 6-5 on the season and San Diego is 8-2 after winning three-straight, including two road wins. The Toreros lead the nation in three-point field goal defense holding teams to 21.8 percent. North Texas is averaging 7.8 three-pointers made per game.

The Mean Green are coming off an impressive 38-point win against McNeese 85-47 on Dec. 9. North Texas had four players in double-figures with sophomores Roosevelt Smart and Ryan Woolridge scoring 15 points apiece. Junior Tope Arikawe scored a career-high 11 points off the bench and grabbed six rebounds. North Texas forced 20 McNeese turnovers and converted 32 points off those turnovers.

Smart continues to be the catalyst leading the team in scoring at 17.4 points per game and has hit 34 three-pointers. Smart is 32nd in the nation in free throw percentage at 91.8 percent missing just four free throws in 49 attempts. Woolridge is second on the team in scoring at 12.4 points per game and leads the team in assists with 48.

North Texas has played some close road games but haven't found a way to finish and hope to end a seven-game road losing streak on Dec. 16.

The Mean Green will have a quick turnaround to play at Georgetown on Dec. 20 followed by conference play at UTEP (Dec. 28) and at UTSA (Dec. 30).

About the Opponent: San Diego
• The Mean Green improved to 6-1 at home this season with a dominant 38-point win against McNeese 85-47. North Texas scored 29 bench points, including a career-high 11 points from Tope Arikawe.

• This will be fifth meeting between the teams and third meeting in San Diego. The series is tied 2-2. North Texas is 2-0 on the road against San Diego with both wins coming during the 1980s.

• In the previous meeting, San Diego's Olin Carter, an Allen, Texas native, drained the game-winning three-pointer to give the Toreros a 69-68 victory on Dec. 22, 2016. J-Mychal Reese had a chance to win but was called for a charge as time expired.

• In the last meeting at San Diego, North Texas earned an 81-77 overtime win on Dec. 28, 1988 thanks to former Mean Green standout Deon Hunter's 25 points. Hunter is 20th on the all-time scoring list.

• San Diego enters having won three-straight games and is 8-2 on the season. The Toreros are 4-1 at home and 4-1 on the road. They sit 56th in the NCAA RPI and are coming off a 69-59 road win at Colorado on Dec. 12.

• San Diego only has two losses against San Diego State (66-57) and at UC Santa Barbara (67-57).

• The Toreros have three players averaging double-figures in Isaiah Pineiro (15.1), Isaiah Wright (13.7) and Olin Carter (12.3). Wright leads the team with 53 assists and 18 steals. Carter has hit 26 three-pointers and Pineiro leads the team in rebounding at 6.4 boards per game.
