DENTON – The North Texas men’s basketball team riding a three-game winning streak welcomes metroplex rival UTA Saturday, Dec. 3 at 2 p.m. inside the Super Pit.

The Mean Green (4-3) are hoping to end a recent three-game losing streak to UTA with the last win in the series coming at home on Nov. 30, 2010. North Texas is 4-1 at the Super Pit this season and is coming off a 73-45 victory against Texas College last Wednesday on DISD day. Sophomore center Rickey Brice Jr. earned his second career double-double and scored a career-high 15 points. Brice, Jr. also had a career-high five blocks in the win.

Senior Deckie Johnson leads the team in scoring at 14.9 points per game and has hit 14 three-pointers. Johnson also has gotten to the foul line going 32-for-37 to lead the team at 86.5 percent. Freshman A.J. Lawson is third on the team at 9.4 points per game. Senior J-Mychal Reese is fourth at 8.2 and leads the team with 27 assists.

Stretch forwards Derail Green and Shane Temara will be counted on to contribute against UTA. Green has started all seven games and is averaging 6.0 points per game. Temara finished with 14 points off the bench against Texas College and is scoring 7.9 per game.

North Texas has five games remaining in the non-conference schedule with four coming at home.

About the Opponent: UTA

• This will be the 54th meeting between North Texas and UTA. The Mean Green lead the all-time series with a 30-23 record but UTA has won the last three meetings.

• Last season, UTA defeated North Texas 90-67 on December 3, 2015 at College Park Center. Deckie Johnson and J-Mychal Reese scored 16 points in the loss. UTA’s Kevin Hervey finished with 20 points, 15 rebounds and seven assists.

• The last home game for North Texas in the series, UTA earned a 72-59 win on Nov. 28, 2012. Tony Mitchell had 12 points and nine rebounds in the loss. The Mean Green were tied heading into halftime but were outscored 41-28 in the second half.

• UTA is 5-3 on the season coming off its first-ever win in program history against Texas 72-61 in Austin on Nov. 29. The Mavs are riding a four-game winning streak with wins against Saint Francis (88-67), Mount Saint Mary’s (MD) 80-71, at Fordham (67-63) and Texas.

• Jalen Jones leads the team in scoring at 13.8 points per game and Kevin Hervey is second at 12.6. Hervey leads the team in rebounding at 6.0 per game and Jorge Bilbao is second at 5.5. UTA can shoot from distance having made 71 three-pointers so far this season.

The North Texas men's basketball team couldn't overcome missed free throws and getting out-rebounded by 18 as they dropped a road game at UT Arlington, 90-67, Thursday night at the College Park Center.
