DENTON – The North Texas men’s basketball team has had a week to prepare for a three-day home tournament starting with Idaho on Monday, Nov. 23 at 7:30 inside the Super Pit.

The Mean Green will face Idaho (Nov. 23), Samford (Nov. 24) and finish the Mean Green Challenge against former Sun Belt foe Troy (Nov. 25).

North Texas enters with a 2-0 record after opening the season with back-to-back 100 point scoring outputs against Jarvis Christian (W, 112-82) and Texas College (W, 110-61). It was the first time since the 1978-79 season that North Texas scored 100 or more points in back-to-back games. The Mean Green currently is No. 1 in the nation in scoring offense at 111 points per game.

The new look offense is led by sophomore Jeremy Combs who leads the team in scoring at 21.0 points per game. Combs is second on the team in rebounding at 8.5 boards per contest and has six dunks in the first two games. Junior DeAndre Harris made his season debut against Texas College scoring 18 points off a career high 4-for-4 from the three point line.

The Mean Green is averaging 19.0 assists per game in large part to junior transfer J-Mychal Reese and freshman Ja'Michael Brown. Reese, having not played in two years, has dished out 12 assists and Brown has 10 in two games.

Graduate student Eric Katenda made his season debut against Texas College after transferring from Notre Dame last season. Katenda scored 15 points off 5-of-7 from the field and led the team with seven rebounds. Freshman Rickey Brice Jr. had a season high three blocks against Texas College.

About the Opponents: Idaho, Samford, Troy
• This will be the 10th all-time meeting between the two teams. Idaho is a perfect 9-0 against North Texas, including a 4-0 record inside the Super Pit.

• The Idaho Vandals used to be conference rivals of the Mean Green in the Big West Conference from 1997-2000. The last meeting between the two teams came in 2013 at the Coaches vs. Cancer neutral site game in Portland, Ore. as Idaho defeated North Texas, 87-76 on Nov. 23, 2013.

• Idaho is 2-1 on the season with wins against San Jose State (W, 74-54) and Linfield (W, 85-59). The Vandals lost a road game against CSU Bakersfield, 68-45.

• This will be the ninth all-time meeting between the two teams. North Texas is 6-2 against Samford and is 4-1 in home games. The last meeting came on Nov. 29, 1996 when Samford defeated North Texas, 78-71 in a neutral game.

• Samford is 2-1 on the season with wins against Auburn-Montgomery (W, 94-79) and Kennesaw State (W, 77-65). The Bulldogs opened the season with a road loss against Louisville, 86-45 on Nov. 13.

• This will be the 14th all-time meeting between the two teams. The Mean Green hold a 10-3 record against Troy and is 5-1 in games played in Denton. The two teams used to be conference rivals in the Sun Belt and the last meeting was Jan. 16, 2012 when North Texas took home a road win 63-61 in Troy.

• Troy is 2-1 on the season with wins against USF (W, 82-77) and Reinhardt (W, 97-82). The Trojans lost to Conference USA foe UAB, 79-63, on Nov. 19.
