DENTON – The North Texas men’s basketball team returns home to host Drexel for the first time in school history Sunday, Nov. 20 at 1 p.m. inside the Super Pit.

The Mean Green enter the game with a 1-1 record after dropping a 70-43 road contest at Texas Tech on Nov. 15. Senior Deckie Johnson led the team with 13 points and freshman A.J. Lawson added 10 points.

Johnson leads the team at 18.0 points per game and is 14th in the nation in made free throws going 19-of-21 in two games. Junior Jeremy Combs is third on the team at 9.0 points per game and 5.5 rebounds per game.

North Texas will play eight of the next 10 games at home to finish the non-conference schedule.

Here are some notes heading into the game.

New Version Of Rickey Brice, Jr. - Sophomore center came into the season in great shape and performed well in the season opener with 12 points (6-of-8), eight rebounds and two blocks in 19 minutes off the bench. Brice, Jr. scored 10 of his 12 points off mid-range jumpers. Brice, Jr. finished with three points, five rebounds and a block at Texas Tech. The sophomore has three blocks in two games.

Freshman From Bryan, Texas Opening Some Eyes - Freshman A.J. Lawson scored in double figures for the second straight game after adding 10 points at Texas Tech. Lawson gave the Mean Green a spark with 14 points (six-for-nine), three rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal in 27 minutes off the bench in the season opener. Lawson is a former high school teammate of senior J-Mychal Reese.

Mean Green Set For Scarlet Knight Showcase - The North Texas men’s basketball team will start the multi-team tournament by hosting Drexel on Nov. 20 then will travel to face Big 10 member Rutgers for the first time in school history on Nov. 23 at the Rutgers Athletic Center. The Mean Green will then head back to the Super Pit to host Niagara (Nov. 25) and Hartford (Nov. 27) to finish the tournament.

About the Opponent: Drexel

• This will be the first meeting between North Texas and Drexel.

• The Dragons have a new head coach this season in Zach Spiker, who led Army West Point (19 wins in 2015-16) to its most wins in more than 30 years. Spiker spent the past seven seasons as the head coach of the Black Knights and earned 102 wins, tied for second most all-time with Bob Knight.

• Drexel finished the 2015-16 season 6-25 and 3-15 in the Colonial Athletic Association. The Dragons are 1-2 on the season after defeating Hartford 87-73 in their home opener Nov. 18.

• Freshman Kurk Lee leads the team in scoring at 18.3 points per game and Rodney Williams is second at 18.0. Sammy Mojica is third at 10.7 points per game. Williams leads the team in rebounding at 7.7 rebounds per game and has eight blocks in three games.
