Guard Walton To Miss Season With Injury
Sharp Shooting Guard Brandan Walton Will Miss The Remainder Of The Season With Injury
DENTON, Texas – North Texas senior shooting guard Brandan Walton will miss the remainder of the season with a foot injury, and is expected to seek a redshirt and return for 2013-14.
“My heart goes out to Brandan in this very unfortunate situation,” said North Texas head coach Tony Benford. “Brandan is such a great kid that does everything right both on and off the court. He is set to graduate in May, and was really going to do some good things for our basketball team this year. We look forward to his full recovery and a great return to the court next season.”
Walton played one minute of the season opener at Creighton before suffering the season-ending injury.
The Compton, Calif., native hit 54 three-pointers for the Mean Green last year, including the game-winner against Louisiana-Lafayette in the Sun Belt Tournament quarterfinals. He also ranked sixth in the league with 2.1 three-pointers per SBC game, and tallied 14 double-figure performances.
Walton joins Marquette transfer T.J. Taylor as shooting guards that North Texas can look forward to in 2013-14. Taylor was a Third-Team All-American at Paris Junior College last season before signing with the Golden Eagles.
