Men's Basketball Wins Season Opener Against Cameron

DENTON (11/10/07) Four newcomers paced the North Texas men’s basketball team to a 106-53 season-opening victory against Cameron on Saturday night at the Super Pit in front of a crowd of 3,136.

 

The Mean Green won its first game of the season and improved to 7-0 in season openers under head coach Johnny Jones. North Texas is now 4-0 in the series versus Cameron, including last year’s season-opening win.

 

Transfer Collin Dennis came off the bench to score a game-high 21 points. Freshmen Tristan Thompson and Josh White started the first game of their careers and scored in double figures with 16 and 14 points, respectively.

 

Freshman Adam McCoy came off the bench to score 13 points, and senior Ben Bell posted double figures with 10 points.

 

The Mean Green raced out to a 21-9 lead in the opening 10 minutes of the first half. At one point in the game, North Texas made 11 consecutive free throws. With a layup by Thompson, North Texas led by as many 33 points with a minute left in the first period.

 

The Mean Green shot 47.4 percent from the field in the first half. White and Thompson led the Mean Green in the first half with 10 and nine points, respectively.

 

All 12 active players for the Mean Green scored in tonight’s game.

 

The Mean Green unveiled its 2007 Sun Belt Conference Tournament Champions and NCAA Participants banners before the game.

 

North Texas hosts Oklahoma State on Wednesday, November 14 at 7 pm in the Super Pit.
