DENTON, Texas - Leadership isn't in short supply for the 2013-14 North Texas basketball team, at least not if Jordan Williams has anything to say about it.

Williams, who opens his junior season on Friday against Northwood at 5 p.m., has seen 19 years of college basketball experience added to the Mean Green locker room over the offseason - including a pair of grad students in Vertrail Vaughns (George Mason) and Kelvin Gaines (Cincinnati). Even so, he wants his play to set the tone for an NT squad looking to move past a disappointing 12-20 campaign in 2012.

The Dallas native led the Mean Green with 14.2 points per game, but flourished more as the season progressed. Williams scorched the year's final 13 opponents for 18.5 points per game. This year, he hopes to expand his play to both ends of the court.

"I think Jordan can be a complete basketball player," said North Texas head coach Tony Benford. "That's been our challenge for him since we got here, and I think he is making great progress."

Tipoff against the Northwood Knights is slated for 5 p.m. on Friday, in order to accommodate the Homecoming Bonfire festivities.
