Media Day & First Hoops Practice In The Books

DENTON, Texas – New head coach Tony Benford and the North Texas men’s basketball team hosted the DFW media and tipped off the 2012-13 season with its first official practice of the year on Friday afternoon.

Fresh off Preseason All-America nods from CBS Sports, Blue Ribbon Report and Athlon, Tony Mitchell was the main attraction for the numerous reporters and TV cameras. On top of answering questions, the sophomore staged slam dunks for his upcoming website TonyMitchell13.com, which is expected to debut next month.

North Texas, which has averaged 21 wins per season over the last six years, opens the 2012-13 season on Nov. 9 at former Missouri Valley Conference rival Creighton.

The fans get their first chance to see the new-look Mean Green on Monday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. at the North Texas Basketball Madness event at the Super Pit. Fans get to see the teams scrimmage, a 3-point contest and a dunk contest featuring Mitchell.
