Oct. 3, 2014

DENTON -- The North Texas basketball teams hosted their friends from Special Abilities of North Texas for a Super Pit shoot around on the afternoon of October 1.

This marks the second year North Texas basketball has partnered with Special Abilities of North Texas. The events give Mean Green student-athletes an opportunity to get involved with the community while also helping the clients of Special Abilities of North Texas to learn and be more accepted.

"We get a chance to reach kids that a lot of times don't have an opportunity to reach the Super Pit floor, and this is really special for us," men's head coach Tony Benford said.

"It's an opportunity to just have fun, enjoy yourself, and just interact with the folks and enjoy the day," women's head coach Mike Petersen added.

Special Abilities of North Texas, which operates two training centers in Denton County, is a charitable-nonprofit organization providing care, training, support services and programs for persons with developmental disabilities and special needs."

"We are thrilled with our partnership with North Texas," said Troy Greisen, president and CEO of Special Abilities of North Texas. "Our many clients and students with special needs are very capable of achieving success in life and with these inclusive opportunities so much can be gained."
