Tony Benford Takes Part In First Ever CVC Texas Tip-Off
Benford Joined Five Other Texas Coaches To Raise Money For Cancer Research
DALLAS - North Texas men's basketball head coach Tony Benford participated in the inaugural Coaches vs. Cancer Texas Tip-Off Thursday night held at the House of Blues in Dallas.
"We are excited to be a part of the coaches vs. cancer tip-off," Benford said. "To be able to represent North Texas and Conference USA is a privilege. We are trying to bring awareness for cancer, which is the second leading cause of death in the United States."
The event started with a VIP session allowing donors to talk basketball with the six coaches from across the state of Texas. Later in the night ESPN's Fran Fraschilla, who served as the event's emcee, sat down with all the coaches in a round-table setting. Benford joined the stage with Scott Drew (Baylor HC), Tim Jankovich (SMU HC), Shaka Smart (Texas HC), Billy Kennedy (Texas A&M HC), and Benford's former college friend Jamie Dixon (TCU HC).
The Mean Green was well represented at the event having four members on the executive coaches committee in Deborah Benford, Carolyn Evans, Mark & Susan Miller, and Brad & Vicki Olson.
The event concluded with donations to help support a brand new cancer treatment center called Hope Lodge Dallas. For more information please contact Diedre Bacala at firstname.lastname@example.org.
